Sydney Rugby Sevens

Feb 4, 2016  ·  2 min read

By Ben Stephens.

Two days, 16 teams, seven players per side, seven minute halves, 24 games per day. The Sydney 7’s are about to take over Allianz Stadium with the wildest and fastest paced version of rugby that you have ever bore witness to.

This weekend will see Sydney play host to the World Rugby HSBC Sevens Series, where the best of the sport will be out on show. The first day will see the four pools battle it out, with the second day of play dedicated to finals. Set on a normal sized field, with only seven players on each side, the game is lightning fast with a antelope-like side steps, break-neck sprints and monster tackles making a great game.

Pool A sees an exciting line up with Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Portugal going head to head. Be sure to catch the last game that day to see a replay of the 2015 Rugby World Cup, with Australia up against New Zealand, in a 14-minute match.

Pool B has Scotland, Kenya, Russia and South Africa working things out, while over in Pool C Fiji, Argentina, Samoa and the French battling each other. Equally exciting, Pool D will host England, United States, Japan and Wales. The match ups are set to bring out the best of each teams and create an exciting vibe in Allianz Stadium. These guys are going to war.

The theme for the first ever Sydney 7’s weekend is ‘Go Global’, so feel free to really go all out on your costume and join in the party.

Tickets are selling fast and are expected to sell out before the first kick off, so grab them on the website.
